Yuuko Ichihara

With one single reference image, and working off of my love for victorian attire I knew this project had to have a grand outcome.
My love for research developed Yuuko further, as I went heavily into details of Victorian riding habits, specific bustle shapes and simple yet stand-out trims. The jacket has the same seam and peplum structure of the era, a boned bustle with pad, and even specifically how wide to make the sleeves. Much of this knowledge was already known, but reconfirming and finding plates of desired elements was satisfying.

I've included a few images out of my research but will be posting my entire collection of annotation and sourced material at a later date.

So many challenges came out of creating this costume, including learning specific talents with sewing soutache braids, goldwork, and creating styled hairpieces.
Tiny details such as hand-sewing crystal droplets and pearls to the bustle, extra added lace and using mixed media to create the bird are some of my favorite.
